How come the control panel caught on fire?

Last night my wife had the oven set to bake and a few minutes later you could see sparks and fire with smoke coming out behind the control panel for bake and such.
I immediately disconnected the oven and then when I opened the back the unit for bake was burnt.

Also on a side note. Do I need to change my Yahoo email address as stated here because of spam? I can't use any other.
