CGSR362G2 Capital Culinarian oven overheating

This gas oven has had an overheating issue since almost new.

I have had Capital’s tech out three times and he has replaced the thermostat each time.

Yesterday, after the repair tech replaced the mechanical thermostat for the third time, I attempted to bake some cookies at 375. I use an external thermometer to monitor the oven temp and after smelling the cookies burning I checked the temp and thermometer was maxed out, over 510 degrees.

From my understanding of mechanical thermostats the failure modes are normally it won’t turn on the burner or the burner will not turn off.

I disassembled the replaced thermostat and the contact points were not fused.

An interesting data point is the overheating appears to only happen if the oven knob is set over 300 degrees. Lower than that the oven works correctly.

The repair tech did test the oven after replacing the thermostat to confirm it worked.

One difference between the tech’s test and my first use was that I had two cookie sheets side by side filling the oven.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong besides the thermostat? Perhaps a temperature sensitive solenoid controlling the gas?

Thermador Oven C301 - door lock issue - Error Codes 50 & 51

After dealing with my fridge all week, now its the built in Thermador (single) Oven.

I tried to run the self clean cycle, and its confused about the door lock. Sometimes its actually locked, but it doesn't think it is. And sometimes its unlocked, and the oven thinks it can't lock. If I leave the door open, and hold the door light switch in, I can see the door lock move back and forth.

In any case, the self clean mode cancels itself after about 40 sec, and I get either the 50 or 51 error code.

I thought I'd put this thread up before I go pulling the oven to get access to the door lock.

Any thoughts??

Larry

VGSC3676BSS Viking range ignition issues

I just had a service call for a friend's 10 year old Viking range. Photo of the range top: http://ift.tt/2ESWdy5

The main reason for the service was that the piezo ignition only works for the left rear burner. Secondary issue is the ignition continues to click even after the burners are lit.

He came out and wire brushed the igniters and took the burners apart.

Almost $200 later ($75 for the service call, $105 hourly rate) he was able to get two burners to ignite, and said we should replace all 6 complete burner assemblies because of corrosion, and becuase he has to cut them off to take the range top off, so we might as well replace them all. At a total cost of around $1000.

So I'd like a second opinion, but I'm loath to get another repair person in here. I'm pretty handy and comfortable with electonics, so if you've got recommendations for me, I'll give it a go.

Miele oven cooking probe / meat probe

Hi, my oven is no longer registering the (wired) meat probe. A while back I noticed that the preset temperature could not be set any higher than 60C, or rather you could set a higher temperature, but cooking stopped at 60C anyway. Only after the meat had reached 60C could you set the temperature higher and the oven would remember it. The other day I was going to test this to prepare for speaking with Miele service, but then the probe was not registered at all. The oven does not register that there is a probe jacked in at all.

When I measure resistance it is fairly stable and changes with temperature so I suspect the probe is OK, but I've been trying to find out what the resistance of the probe should be so that I can check whether it's probe or oven that is faulty. Do anyone know what the resistance should be at room temperature?

Would anyone know if it is likely to be faulty receptacle or faulty electronics if the probe is OK?

Thanks in advance.

PS - the Miele guy said it might just be a greased up receptacle so I'll try and clean it.
